2 Weeks of CHEKA-ing....

I am beyond impressed with the quality of education the students are receiving from our incredible teachers Happy and Thabeea.  The students have come such a long way.  The younger class (ages 3-4) are working on letter identification and sounds.  The older classes (5-6) are working on addition and English vocabulary.

The new Cheka is both safe and stable, which is a relief for both the students, teachers and Volunteer Team.  Our staff is incredible.  We have two fabulous teachers, Herman our director and two guards

In addition we have continued setting up some of the Mamas with businesses of their own to support their families.  Some of the businesses include raising chickens, buying and re-selling carpet and selling fish and produce.

JUE

This afternoon we stopped by Jue to see all the Cheka students who are now sponsored to Jue.  There are 14 wonderful students in all.  They were very excited to see us and all looked great in their Jue uniforms.

Later we went back to Mkono to see the progress of Jue's new land.  The structure of the classrooms and administrative block are complete and mostly painted.  The foundation of the three-story orphanage quarters is complete as well.
Ester has done a wonderful job!  The students will move in September from the current and much smaller location, to the lush land of the new location.

Field Trip

We took the Tembo and Kiboko class on a field trip to Arusha Airport.  We had a wonderful guided tour of the planes.  The students were able to sit in the planes and have their pictures taken.  They loved watching the planes take off and land.

They were also able to see the firetrucks on site.

After the tour we had  a great picnic lunch of jam sandwiches, juice and cookies.

The students favorite part of the trip was undoubtedly the dala ride to and from the airport where we sang many classics such as "Our School What a Wonder you are" "Elephant, Elephant",  "Go to London Baby".  Love it!
