A few weekends ago my friend Meg and I went to a wedding with our Placement Director, Jessica. It was so much fun and an awesome experience. We were the only mzungus but Jessica translated and told us to feel comfortable, that no one there would judge us. There was lots of music and toasting! The dinner was a delicious buffet of traditional Tanzanian food... so yummy!
There were however some odd parts:
The 'traditional' wedding cake is a GOAT! which gets brought out in front on the bride and groom who cut it and feed it to each other and the grandparents!
It looked so odd- the head was untouched and the legs broken in the oddest position- not really the most pleasant sight!
Then a 'western' cake was done too!
Gifts are 'danced' down the aisle- it included a sofa set, cupboards and a refrigerator.
And yes, the mzungus joined the 'lawyer' group and danced our cushions down too...oh so whitely!
It was just a really fun experience and we were, as always, warmly welcomed which is lovely!

The band
Congratulating the newly married couple
The cutting of the goat!
